The DC Bluegrass Union has announced the winners of their 2021 Mike Auldridge Instrumental Contest. DCBU holds this each year, both to honor the memory of reso-guitar master, Mike Auldridge, his many contributions to the capitol area bluegrass community, and to encourage the composition of new instrumental tunes.

Substantial prizes are awarded for the top three entries, with $500 going to first place, $250 to second place, and $100 to third. All entries are judged by a three-person panel whose names are not made public until each annual competition is complete. The 2021 judges were Mike Kear, Patrick McAvinue, and Mark Schatz.

And the 2021 winners are…

1st Place – Neighbor Mike by George Jackson, Madison TN

2nd Place – Whistlepig by Andrew Small, Floyd, VA

3rd Place – Cup and Porch by Ethan Sherman, Alhamra, CA

Honorable mentions were also awarded to Mainline Runner by Doug Knecht (Roanoke, IL) and Catalpa Hop by Brad Kolodner (Baltimore, MD).

Congratulations and well done all!
