The production canceled performances through December 21 due to COVID-19. Producers announced the production would close indefinitely a few days later.
“We are dismayed by what appears to be another substantial public health crisis, and – due to the detection of multiple positive COVID-19 cases within the company – need to prioritize the health and safety of the cast, crew, and entire team working on Jagged Little Pill,” the producers’ (Vivek J. Tiwary, Arvind Ethan David, Eva Price) statement reads.
“In light of the extreme uncertainty ahead of us this winter, and forced to choose between continuing performances and protecting our company, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our doors.”
“We know that the Jagged Little Pill story will continue to be told – and in the new year, we will be announcing plans for subsequent productions, building on the show’s triumphant launch in Australia earlier this month.”
“We also hope and intend to find a way to bring this vibrant and vitalizing musical back to the Broadway stage, once the current crisis is past,” the Jagged Little Pill producers’ statement concludes.
The Jagged Little Pill Broadway musical is features music from Alanis Morisette’s 1995 album of the same name. The work opened on Broadway in 2019 and was sidelined during the Broadway shutdown of 2020. The production was nominated for 15 Tony Awards (2020), and won Best Book of a Musical for Diablo Cody and Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Lauren Patten.
Aside from Broadway, other productions are shutting down across the country. iHeartRadio’s annual Jingle Ball tour cancelled its Miami show due to COVID-19 outbreaks.
“Due to the increased transmission of the new COVID-19 variant and to further minimize any potential risks, as a precautionary measure and for the safety of our staff, talent and guests, we have made the decision to cancel tonight’s iHeartRadio Y100 Jingle Ball,” the iHeartRadio statement reads.
The show was scheduled to take place in the FLA Live Arena and would have featured Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Blacked Eyed Peas, AJR, Saweetie, Tate McRae, Monsta X, Bazzi, Anitta, and Dixie D’Amelio. Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and the Jonas Brothers pulled out of the tour last week due to infections.
