Rapper J. Cole’s entire eight album catalog is available in spatial audio exclusively on Apple Music.

Spatial audio is Apple’s next big focus for music streaming, and J. Cole is on board. The rapper’s entire catalog is now available for listening using Dolby Atmos’ spatial audio tech. Apple is working closely with artists and labels to offer their catalogs in the spatial audio experience. J. Cole’s spatial audio albums are available exclusively to Apple Music subscribers.

“J. Cole is one of the greats in hip-hop because of quality lyrics, quality music, and being a quality human,” says Apple Music’s Ebro Darden. “To set aside time to work with our team at Apple Music to deliver a new spatial listening experience for the fans shows how much he cares about continuing to push for better quality. Thanks Cole!”

“Spatial audio has given fans a new experience when listening to music, and we’re excited to work with Apple Music to be able to bring that experience to Cole’s fans by making his entire catalog available in spatial audio,” says Dreamville Co-Founder Ibrahim Hamad.

It’s great to see artists embracing spatial audio as a new listening experience since it really does feel different. The technology is something that Apple is hoping will set its music streaming service apart from others.

Spotify announced its HiFi service to compete with Apple Music last year, but it has been crickets since. Could Apple’s focus on securing spatial audio exclusives be tripping up Spotify’s offerings?

We already know Spotify is one of the lowest-paying music streaming services for artist royalties. It’s not hard to see artists wanting to offer their listeners who generate more royalties a better experience with spatial audio and high-fidelity quality – that’s just business.
