Joe Rogan has responded to the recent Spotify backlash on his most recent JRE episode.

Rogan discussed the recent headlines with his guest, fellow comedian Akaash Singh. He called it a ‘relief’ and says it has allowed him to address things that he regrets. “In a lot of ways, this is a relief,” Rogan says. “That video had always been out there. This is a political hit job. They’re taking all this stuff I’ve ever said that’s wrong and smushing it all together. It’s good because it makes me address some stuff that I really wish wasn’t out there.”

Joe Rogan also noted that he apologized and doesn’t regret it. “You should apologize if you regret something. I do think you have to be careful not to apologize for nonsense.” He and Singh then discussed trying to be funny by saying things you may regret.

“I have said shit about every demographic of human beings possible and I regret every one that was like not funny,” Singh says. “The punishment is everybody hears it and I’m an asshole. But I can’t stop shooting, I can’t stop swinging.”

“Over time, people will understand you,” Rogan adds. “They know you. If you misstep, they know what you’re trying to do – you’re not a vicious person, you’re just trying to be funny.” Rogan’s previous comments about the COVID-19 vaccine are primarily what started the Spotify exodus, with Neil Young leading the charge.

Young requested to have his music removed from Spotify, saying it could have “Young or Rogan, but not both.” Young is a survivor of polio and cited the open letter from 270 medical professionals to Spotify as his primary motivator. Yet after the conversation got started, India Arie joined saying she would pull her music from Spotify, too.

Arie highlights Joe Rogan’s comments around race as her primary factor in leaving. Those comments have been highlighted into a super-cut that has gone viral on social media. Rogan asked to have around 70 episodes removed from Spotify before apologizing for the language contained in the video.
