Kanye West has been banned from performing at the Grammys due to “concerning online behavior.”

The Recording Academy decided not to allow the rapper to perform after Kanye went on a rampage online. He used racial slurs to refer to The Daily Show host Trevor Noah on Instagram, netting him a 24-hour ban from the social media site. Noah is slated to host the 2022 Grammy Awards in Las Vegas next month.

Kanye West has spent the better part of a month disparaging his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her new partner, Pete Davidson. The rapper also released an animated music video for his single, “Eazy” that features a character that looks like Davidson.

The lyrics of the song include the phrase, “God saved me from this crash Just so I could beat Pete Davidson’s a**.” In the animation, Kanye kidnaps a clay figure with a close resemblance to Davidson and dismembers it before burying it. Kanye released the video on March 2, the same date Kardashian was legally declared single again.

According to Kanye’s representatives, they received a call Friday night informing them of the decision. “Our sources say Kanye’s team isn’t surprised by this decision,” Variety reports. The decision may have been made to avoid further animosity between the rapper and host Trevor Noah. But Noah says Kanye shouldn’t be canceled; he should be counseled. Noah was drawn into the online brawl after commenting on Kanye’s harassment of Kim.

“I’ll be honest with you – what I see from the situation is a woman who wants to live her life without being harassed by an ex-boyfriend or an ex-husband or an ex-anything,” Noah said of the situation. Kanye was not among the list of performers announced on Tuesday, but may have performed later in the show.

Announced performers for the 2022 Grammy Awards include BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X with Jack Harlow, Brandi Carlile, and Brothers Osborne. The 64th annual awards will be broadcast on April 3, 2022 at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT on CBS and is streaming live on Paramount+.
