The Foo Fighters will play a free concert in VR and hosted by Meta.

The free VR concert will feature the Foo Fighters playing on February 13, immediately following the Super Bowl. The concert will be available to stream on Facebook and Instagram, but VR owners can experience it differently. Checking out the concert in the Horizon Venues app will reveal a 180-degree VR concert.

“Foo Fighters love a challenge – from playing the biggest stages in the world to the tiniest clubs to making movies and miniseries. We’ve pretty much done it all,” says Dave Grohl. “But we’ve never collaborated with Mark Romanek on a conceptual set of songs for a worldwide audience, where everyone has the best seats in the house thanks to the most badass VR tech – until now. Join us when we cross that one off the FF bucket list!”

Grohl also mentions that at least one of the songs will be played live for the first time ever. The Horizon Venues app is designed as a virtual environment where people can interact using their digital avatars. Meta has invested more than $10 billion in building its suite of AR and VR products and services.

The Foo Fighters VR concert on Meta is directed by noted music video filmmaker Mark Romanek. The stage will feature a custom design that’s being described as a “surreal convergence of physical, fantastical, visual elements.” The streams on Meta’s platforms will start at 8 pm on February 13 after the Super Bowl. The concert is free to view and features no ads or brand sponsorships.

Those watching the concert in the Horizon Venues app can meet up in a lobby with friends and other fans before the show begins. Some of the lobby bays will also have doors into Horizon Worlds, Meta’s attempt at a Roblox-style collection of virtual worlds for people to play around in after the concert concludes.
