Omarion took to TikTok to address the omicron variant jokes that keep cropping up.

“Hi, this is Omarion,” the R&B artist says in the first of three videos posted to the social network. “So please be aware that if you just so happen to run into me on the street, you don’t have to isolate for five days,” Omarion says.

The next video features the rapper talking over his 2005 hit, “Touch.” “What it’s important not to touch me and keep your distance, cause you know that’s how it’s supposed to be, you don’t need a negative test to dance to my music,” the artist continues. As soon as the joking videos were posted, they went viral, amassing more than 100,000 views each.

In another video at Genius.com, Omarion continues the joke, saying he’s not a variant.

“I know there has been a lot of confusion online recently, so my lawyers asked me to read this,” the artist says. “I, Omarion, am a musician and entertainer – you knew that – not a variant, OK. The last time I had to do this was in 2000 when everyone confused Y2K with B2K,” he continues, referencing his time in the boy band. “That ain’t how it’s supposed to be, but seriously, I want to wish you all a happy and safe new year’s. Peace.”

Omarion addressed the concerns jokingly on social media after several people made jokes. In one screenshot, LaKeith Stanfield sent the singer a DM saying, “you ruining Christmas for everybody, smh.”

Social media is continuing to have fun by conflating Omarion with the omicron variant of COVID-19. The CDC notes that the Omicron variant can spread ‘more easily’ than other variants before it. It also recommends vaccinations and masking as tools to help fight the pandemic.

Omarion has released six albums as a solo artist, with two of them reaching the top spot on the Billboard 200. His most recent work is teaming up with Bow Wow and Soulja Boy for a 2021 single, “EX.”
