Omicron Is Shutting Down New Year’s Celebrations — Here’s the List of Cancellations So Far

Another socially distanced New Years’ celebration is upon us as 2022 appears on the horizon. Here’s a look at some of the events that are scaled back or canceled altogether.

globalFEST | The annual one-day festival in New York City was set to return in 2022 on January 16 at Webster Hall. However, organizers decided to cancel the event as Omicron surges in the state.

“We are heartbroken to announce the cancellation of globalFEST’s flagship event,” the organizers said in a statement. “Ticket holders will be automatically refunded by Webster Hall to the original payment method used for ticket purchase.”

The first rescheduled dates for the Phish concert at Madison Square Garden are not happening until April.

New Year’s Eve Celebrations – Ongoing

New York City | NYE in Times Square will go on but will be ‘scaled back’ according to the mayor. Social distancing, face masks, and proof of vaccination is required to attend.
Seattle | NYE fireworks at the Space Needle are taking place online using special effects.
Bangkok | Attendees must be fully vaccinated to attend the fireworks show and register 72 hours before the event.
Cape Town | NYE event venues will close early with a stricter curfew.
Dubai | The Burj Khalifa NYE Show is still ongoing.
Sydney | Tickets required to attend, but vaccines are not required.
Boston | Vaccine and masks required to attend
David Byrne’s ‘American Utopia‘ will go on as scheduled. The scaled-back shows will be at St. James Theatre on Broadway.
