The 2022 Grammy Awards are coming — here’s everything you need to know to watch them.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic will likely factor into what the event looks like. But the ongoing controversy that has rocked the biggest awards show in music means some changes came to the 2022 voting process.

The new ’10-3′ voting system is aimed to address some of the claims of corruption that have erupted. In addition to the general voting field (Best Album, Record, Song, and New Artist) voters can select up to 10 categories in up to three fields. The Academy says this tightened voting restriction is aimed at keeping members voting for categories in which they’re most knowledgeable.

The Grammy Awards 2022 ballot consisted of 86 categories – spread over 25 fields. Voters were free to vote in any category except those determined by a special nominating committee. Categories excluded from general voting include:

  • Best Remixed Recording
  • Best Immersive Audio Album
  • Best Recording Package
  • Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package
  • Best Album Notes
  • Best Historical Album

Last year, the Recording Academy merged the pop and urban albums into one race. But this year, urban music is getting its own category – Best Música Urbana Album.

It’s important to note that nomination review committees have been eliminated from the voting process.

After former CEO Deborah Dugan’s allegations and The Weeknd boycotting the show, the Recording Academy dumped these small-time nomination committees altogether.
