Harvey Weinstein was reportedly rushed from Rikers Island to Bellevue Hospital after suffering heart failure linked to pneumonia while awaiting sentencing.
Harvey Weinstein reportedly suffered heart failure while incarcerated at New York City’s Rikers Island jail complex and has been hospitalized for the past two weeks after developing pneumonia.
The former Hollywood producer was being held in the Queens detention facility while awaiting sentencing in September following his 2025 sexual assault conviction. TMZ source said Weinstein began experiencing severe breathing difficulties before suffering heart failure linked to pneumonia, prompting authorities to transfer him to Bellevue Hospital’s prison ward in Manhattan.
According to the report, doctors placed Weinstein on intravenous treatment, connected him to a heart monitor and prescribed antibiotics to combat the pneumonia. Sources told the outlet his condition has improved, though he remains under medical care.
The latest hospitalization adds to a string of health issues Weinstein has faced while behind bars. In recent years, he has been hospitalized multiple times for various medical conditions during his incarceration.
Weinstein’s legal troubles reshaped Hollywood and helped fuel the global #MeToo movement. In 2020, he was convicted in New York on charges of rape and committing a criminal sexual act and sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Two years later, he was convicted in Los Angeles on rape and sexual assault charges and received a separate 16-year prison sentence.
However, Weinstein’s original New York conviction was overturned in 2024 after an appeals court found that the trial judge improperly allowed testimony from women whose allegations were not directly tied to the charges.
Prosecutors retried the case, and Weinstein was convicted again in 2025 on a sexual assault charge. He remains in custody while awaiting sentencing in that case.
Weinstein continues to serve his California sentence while facing the pending New York sentencing.
