Diddy’s lawyers tell a federal judge they still can’t reach him at Fort Dix as the Lil Rod lawsuit deadline slips to August.
Diddy’s planned counterclaims against Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones keep getting pushed back, and the reason isn’t strategy. It’s a prison phone problem that won’t go away.
His civil lawyers already got three extra weeks to file his amended answer and counterclaims in Jones’ lawsuit, moving the original deadline to July 21.
Then, on July 19, attorney Erica A. Wolff filed a letter with U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken seeking yet another extension, this time until August 11.
“We write on behalf of Defendant Sean Combs, pursuant this Court’s Individual Rules, to request a further three-week adjournment of the deadline for Mr. Combs to file his amended answer and counterclaims,” Wolff wrote.

The reason is the same one that got them the first extension.
“As we explained in our June 24 letter, Mr. Combs is currently incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix and we have been unable to communicate with Mr. Combs in advance of the approaching deadline,” Wolff told the court.
The lawyers also flagged the issue during a July 14 conference and warned the judge it still hadn’t been resolved.
“Unfortunately, these challenges have continued,” Wolff wrote, turning what looked like a scheduling hiccup into something that’s starting to look structural.
That means Diddy’s response to Jones is now drifting deep into August while the producer’s lawsuit keeps ticking forward without an answer.
Jones sued Diddy in 2024, accusing the Hip-Hop mogul of sexual assault, harassment, drugging and other misconduct tied to his work on The Love Album: Off The Grid. Diddy has denied the allegations.
The case has already been significantly trimmed. Judge Oetken dismissed Jones’ civil RICO claims, breach of contract claims, emotional distress claims, and the TVPA claim against Combs Global. Claims for sexual assault and premises liability survived, leaving Jones with a smaller but still-dangerous case on his hands.
Diddy is serving a 50-month federal sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey after a jury convicted him on two transportation-to-engage-in-prostitution counts. He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, and his appeal is still pending.
His projected release date is February 23, 2028.
