Lil Uzi Vert missed Lollapalooza, but surprised fans with the birthday EP “Maverick Almost Forever,” sparking speculation that an even bigger album rollout is underway
Lil Uzi Vert found a way get his fans back after disappointment was seemingly taking over. Fans gathered at Lollapalooza only to learn the star would not be performing, Uzi came back with something great: brand new music.
The surprise EP “Maverick Almost Forever” was birthed Thursday/Friday (basically July 31) and also celebrated his 31st birthday with the eight-song project. If you know Uzi, you know birthdays have become a perfect time to keep fans guessing.
The cover art is especially personal, showing a baby Uzi alongside grandma, giving the project a more personal, reflective feel. It also marks Uzi’s first project in two years, ending a lengthy drought.

Exactly 10 years ago, Uzi released “The Perfect LUV Tape,” the mixtape that helped elevate them into rap’s upper tier. That project eventually earned a gold certification. July 31 has also been a lucky date before, as Uzi and Future dropped “Over Your Head” and “Patek” on the same day back in 2020.
Still, the celebration came with some frustration.
Fans packed Chicago’s Grant Park expecting one of Friday’s biggest performances before Charli xcx took the stage. Instead, Lollapalooza organizers informed the crowd, “Due to weather issues, Lil Uzi Vert will no longer be performing.” Zara Larsson ultimately stepped in to fill the slot.
It may not be Vert’s fault! NBC Chicago reported severe storms and heavy rain across the city contributed to travel disruptions throughout the day, suggesting the weather may have played a significant role in the cancellation.
Now the rumors begin.
Was this simply bad luck caused by Mother Nature, or is “Maverick Almost Forever” the first chapter of a much larger rollout?
Uzi hinted earlier this month that new music was on the way. This is the way for him to build momentum. Eight songs on a birthday is a nice teaser. All is forgiven Lil Uzi Vert.
