As the CEO of the Miami Association of Realtors prepares to retire at year’s end after 33 years of leadership, the association announced this week that it will merge May 11 with Broward, Palm Beaches & St. Lucie Realtors to form the world’s largest local realtors association.

The new organization, Miami and South Florida Realtors, will start life with 93,000 members under joint CEOs Teresa King Kinney from Miami and Dionna Hall from Broward. When Ms. King Kinney retires, Ms. Hall will head the organization.

“Our members will have broader, more fluid access to the data, tools, and services they need – without the limitations or complexity of multiple membership,” said Alfredo Pujol, chairman of the board of the Miami association, in a written statement. He will become the first chairman of the new organization, followed next year by Jonathan Dolphus, who now chairs the Broward board.

The Miami organization currently has 56,000 members and the Broward group has 37,000. Together, a statement says, the 93,000-member group serving local realtors will have larger membership than 47 state associations and be more than double the size of next-largest association in the nation.

After the merger next month, Evian White De Leon, the chief operating officer and chief legal counsel of the Miami organization, will become the new group’s chief operating officer and chief of the Miami Realtors Division. Kim Hansen, chief operating officer of the current Broward organization, will become chief operating officer of the BeachesMLS Division and chief of the Broward and Palm Beaches division.

The two current multiple listing services that hold current market data for buyers and sellers will initially operate separately. The statement says only that they “will be combined in the near future.” That combination will be the largest multiple listing service in the nation owned by a single realtor association.

The Miami association began operation in 1920 and has added surrounding organizations in the intervening years.
