Britney Spears’ father has agreed to step down as the conservator of her estate.

Jamie Spears filed new legal documents with the court agreeing to work on a transition. His lawyer argues there are no actual grounds for suspending or removing his client but acknowledges it would be best for Mr. Spears’ daughter.

“Even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests. So even though he must contest this unjustified petition for removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator.”

The legal documents also attack Lynne Spears, saying she has had little involvement in her daughter’s life for the last thirteen years. It also argues that her credibility is dubious when Britney refused to see her mother in 2019.

TMZ spoke with Britney Spears’ new legal representative, Mathew Rosengart, about the filing. “We are pleased but not necessarily surprised that Mr. Spears and his lawyer finally recognize that he must be removed. We are disappointed, however, by their ongoing and shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others.”

“We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the last 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to taking Mr. Spears’s sworn deposition in the near future. In the interim, rather than making false accusations and taking cheap shots at his own daughter, Mr. Spears should step aside immediately.”

Britney Spears’ father will step down as conservator, but the case is far from over.

He must now work with his daughter and her legal representation and the Court to untangle himself from his role. It’s likely to be another years-long legal battle now that Britney Spears has actual legal representation looking after her actual interests.

Spears told a judge earlier this year that she was not aware she could petition to end the conservatorship. Once that revelation was made, her old lawyer soon packed his bags, and Rosengart was hired. Now, less than two months later, there’s light at the end of the conservatorship tunnel for Britney Spears.
