Morgan Wallen’s Label Big Loud/Republic Positions ‘Sand In My Boots’ as Next Radio Single

Morgan Wallen’s label appears to be positioning ‘Sand In My Boots’ as the country star’s next radio single.
Wallen was quietly reinstated by the major US-based radio conglomerates earlier this month. His songs began appearing again on stations owned by iHeartRadio, Cumulus Media, Cox Radio, Audacy, and Alpha Media. Data from those weeks reveals Wallen is receiving a whopping 2,800% increase in radio plays compared to back in February.
Those radio stations faced heavy complaints from country fans, especially those partial to Wallen. In some cases, station managers reported listeners threatened to stop listening and shift to streaming platforms. On-demand streams of Wallen’s music surged, as his music was still available on streaming sevices – just not in curated playlists.
Despite the drastic increase in plays, Wallen is still well below his previous plays before the viral incident.
Wallen promised to step back and reflect on the incident, prompting fans to release an outcry of support. He was declared ineligible for the ACM Awards, which fans across the country protested with multiple billboards in Nashville and Los Angeles.
On May 19, Morgan Wallen made a surprise appearance at Kid Rock’s Nashville honky-tonk. It was his first public performance that his management insists was spontaneous and spur of the moment. Wallen also announced he would not be playing any festivals scheduled for this summer.
But Wallen played at an afterparty of the inaugural Brett Boyer Foundation Invitational. He also participated in the charity golf tournament with fellow country star Luke Bryan – who he was supposed to open for on tour this summer.
Data from last week indicates spins for “Sand In My Boots” are increasing. Today, the singer posted a performance of himself singing the song along with Eric Church, Hardy, and Darius Rucker. The video is an acoustic version of the track, with Wallen, Church, and Hardy playing acoustic guitars as they sang. Darius Rucker appears on the couch next to Morgan Wallen but does not sing in the video.
Morgan Wallen’s manager, Seth England, comments on the clip, “Next single?” while Hardy adds: “I needed that sh*t. Love you, man.” Wallen has been teasing small, intimate performances like this over the course of the last few months. The three-minute clip has been liked over 300,000 times.
