Music licensing marketplace Songtradr is establishing a new global creative division led by Amanda Schupf.

In addition to the new creative division, John Butler will lead the company’s head of music programming and curation. Songtradr’s new global creative division will work with artists, labels, and music catalogs, and rights holders to secure access to music for Songtradr’s music subscription products.

These subscription services provide sync products to businesses and rights-cleared music for content creators. The new division will include artist and label services, music programming and curation, and Songtradr’s original music initiative. John Butler as Head of Music Programming and Curation is the first new hire under Schupf.

Amanda Schupf will establish and lead Songtradr’s global creative strategy across the company’s ecosystem. She will focus on developing and overseeing key creative teams in all three sectors of the creative division.

Meanwhile, Butler will create new programming strategies for meaningful growth and adoption of Songtradr products. That includes Pretzel, a stream-safe music subscription service for live streamers on services like Twitch.

“There is nothing better than joining a growing company at a vital time in our industry,” says Amanda Schupf. “Songtradr’s forward-thinking technology is disrupting the licensing landscape by removing barriers for rights holders and giving them direct access to opportunities and new layers of revenue.”

Prior to joining Songtradr, Schupf held A&R management positions at Imagem and Ingroove Music Publishing. She worked with artists such as John Legend, Mark Ronson, Ludacris, AJR, Cheat Codes, and Swizz Beatz.

Schupf launched her own boutique music management company called MAX in 2018. MAX focuses on guiding the careers of artists, producers, and songwriters, as well as providing creative solutions for labels and publishers.

“Amanda’s experience, network, and entrepreneurial spirit impressed us from the start,” says Paul Wiltshire, CEO of Songtradr. “[She’s] the perfect person to take on this role as we pioneer a fair model for music used by content creators and businesses.”

“We’re thrilled that she’s brought on John Butler to lead music programming and curation. His vast knowledge of music, ability to elevate our data strategy, and his understanding of our users’ needs makes him a great fit for the role.”

Songtradr also completed a $50 million Series D funding round recently, too.

The funding round was led by investors including Regal, Aware Super, Perennial, Argo, and Greencape and a follow-on investment from Richard White, founder and CEO of Wisetech Global. The latest funding round brings Songtradr’s total valuation to more than $300 million.

Songtradr has built a massive portfolio of acquisitions including Pretzel, Tunefind, MassiveMusic, Cuesongs, and Song Zu.
