HBO has released the official teaser for its upcoming eight-part documentary series JAŸ-Z IN 8, a new original project directed by Rick Rubin.
Set to premiere this fall on HBO and stream on HBO Max in the U.S., the series offers an intimate, conversational look at JAŸ-Z as he reflects on his music, life, and creative process. Across the eight episodes, Rubin guides a wide-ranging conversation that traces the stories and experiences behind JAŸ-Z’s work and evolution as an artist.
The teaser hints at a thoughtful and personal tone, with JAŸ-Z saying, “The pain, you don’t say it’s necessary, you don’t say you need it, but if it’s there…you use it.”
Directed by Rick Rubin, known for his stripped down, interview focused theatrically cinematic approach in McCartney 3,2,1. The series continues HBO’s tradition of in depth music documentaries that dig beyond the surface of iconic artists.
JAŸ-Z IN 8 is produced by HBO Documentary Films in partnership with Tetragrammaton. Executive producers include Shawn Carter, Daniel Kaluuya, and Rick Rubin.
More details are expected to roll out closer to the official release this fall.
