Founded by Asheboro native, Ty Brueilly, the Mightier Than The Sword Awards at Sunset Film Festival was the city’s first of its kind, and is now in its third year, taking place at the historic Sunset Theatre.
A part of the first year’s ‘Deadly Double Feature’ in 2024, the Sean Haitz directed ‘Cannibal Comedian’ became a multi-award winning film, with the MIGHTY THEME SONG award going to Kal Tek for his theme song ‘Jokes On You’.
Since then, Kal Tek has collaborated with Haitz again in the 2026 Bill Moseley produced ‘Kharver’ with the song ‘Kurtains’ with the movie showing during the festival in two different screening blocks.
Serendipity strikes for this year’s festival as Kal Tek will get the opportunity to perform that award winning song at the very venue and stage that his award was presented to the ‘Cannibal Comedian’ team back in 2024 while including a performance of the newest theme song, ‘Kurtains’.
“I’m beyond excited to have Kal Tek here in Asheboro, in a perfect world he would have been here back in 2024, but we are now making up for that time this year, so the audience should get ready for something special, because Sean will also be here too and we plan to film a lot of content that may or may not turn into a music video for Kal, stay tuned and above all, help us by being engaged.” Said event director and programmer, Ty Brueilly.
When asked what the audience should expect from his performance, Kal Tek said, “The audience can expect to hear real authentic, unapologetic Hip Hop. Lyricism at Its truest form. I try to actually become the Hip Hop alter ego of a character when I make these songs for movies. Some actors do “method acting” I do “method rhyming”. I become a character myself and bring that life into the lyrics.”
