Jabali Academy hosted its third annual “Empowering Minds” Gala on July 31 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, bringing together educators, entertainers, philanthropists and community leaders to support the Academy’s inaugural school year.
The evening celebrated individuals whose work has made a lasting impact in their communities. Honorees included actor Anthony Anderson, filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood, multi-hyphenate entertainer Debbie Allen and former NBA player Norm Nixon, as well as actress Holly Robinson Peete and former NFL player Rodney Peete.
Guests in attendance included All American cast members Sylvester Powell, Kelly Jenrette, Mustafa Speaks and Chelsea Tavares, along with Beauty in Black actor Charles Malik Whitfield, Sean Patrick Thomas, television personality Rocsi Diaz, CeCe Scott and Byron Scott, among others.
Jabali Academy continues its effort to raise $10 million, with funds from this year’s event helping support the school’s opening in August for its first academic year.
“What a night it was in the Intuit Dome as we formally introduced ourselves to the Inglewood community,” said founder Dr. Jon Carroll. “As we prepare to open the doors to Jabali Academy this fall, we are excited about the continued momentum and partnerships that we are building in the name of making Jabali Academy a lasting institution.”
