Jawan Harris, now known as Jawan, has landed a deal with Epic Records.
He joins a roster that includes Givēon, Mariah the Scientist, Tyla, Future, 21 Savage and more.
Along with his label announcement, Jawan has shared a cover of SWV‘s “You’re Always on My Mind” featuring R&B group Sis.
Reflecting on the 1994 classic, he said, “Flavors come from different, you know, angles of R&B… It’s like people were creating and making R&B that felt like you’re listening to a completely new genre.”
While Jawan’s rendition of “Always on My Mind” is pleasantly faithful to the original, it feels more fitting for Sis than for him. Understandably, the cover is primarily performed by the trio, with Jawan singing the pre-chorus like the song’s producer, Brian Alexander Morgan, did in 1994. If anything, the cover builds more anticipation for Jawan’s proper reintroduction, with original music likely to follow soon.
“Always on My Mind” follows Jawan’s appearance on 21 Savage’s “I Wish” from his 2025 album, What Happened To The Streets?
Regarding the collaboration, Jawan said, “Initially, it was supposed to be just a demo. Pretty much they ended up loving the record, and they kept me on it.”
Before that, Jawan was in the duo Jawan x Tiffany with fellow R&B singer Tiffany Evans. They released four stunning singles between 2020 and 2023: “Finally,” “To Myself,” “Patience” and “Issues.” Ahead of their official debut, they shared a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me.”
Speaking on the duo’s formation, Jawan told Rated R&B, “We actually started off helping each other finish each other’s solo projects. We started to fall in love with the sound that we were creating. Tiffany pitched the idea [to form a duo]. We pretty much just kind of made that decision together and we started, and a full body of work just came out of nowhere.”
A former teen sensation, Jawan burst onto the scene in 2010 with his debut single, “Another Planet,” featuring Chris Brown. He followed up with “Nobody” and the Tyga-Assisted “Keisha” in 2011.
In 2014, Jawan re-emerged as a member of the R&B trio History In The Making. They released their debut EP, H.I.T.M., in September 2015 via ByStorm Entertainment/RCA Records. The five-track offering included the single “Walk Away.”
Aside from music, Jawan starred as Timothy in the 2012 film Pitch Perfect.
