OutKast is bringing some Atlanta flavor to the merch game, teaming up with Waffle House for a collaboration that puts two hometown institutions at the same table. André 3000 and Big Boi are celebrating the city’s music and diner culture with a drop arriving Friday, Oct. 2.
As Complex reported, the duo announced the partnership Wednesday, Sept. 30. The rollout draws on “So Fresh, So Clean,” the Stankonia classic that made room for both fly clothes and patty melts long before this collaboration came together. “Excelling in harmonious melody, boy we got the recipe,” OutKast wrote on social media, giving fans a familiar line to go with the announcement. The teaser turns that connection into a visual, bringing the duo’s world into Waffle House’s recognizable branding.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the merchandise preview appears to include T-shirts, jerseys, socks, and hats, with the collection scheduled to go live on OutKast’s website Friday at 11 a.m. ET. Fans will be able to shop the drop through OutKast.com. The celebration also includes something for fans in the A. “ATL, we got you with the official Outkast x Waffle House launch party. Come on down,” the announcement reads, taking the collaboration from an online tease to a hometown gathering.
Secret Atlanta reported that the launch party is scheduled for Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waffle House at 135 Andrew Young International Blvd. NW. The event will feature limited-edition merchandise, André 3000 and Big Boi meals, souvenir menus, coupons, and live DJs.
Waffle House’s Atlanta roots stretch back decades before OutKast’s debut. According to the restaurant’s official history, Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner opened the first location in Avondale Estates, Georgia, in 1955, building their business around a restaurant that served neighbors around the clock. That familiar yellow sign eventually became part of the landscape across the South, with the counter and booths offering a place to eat and catch up at hours when plenty of other kitchens were closed.
The restaurant also has a longstanding connection to Hip-Hop. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has documented Waffle House references in songs by JAY-Z, Kanye West, and Childish Gambino, as well as its appearance in the 2006 film ATL. The newspaper also noted that Kanye joined André 3000 and Big Boi at an Atlanta Waffle House in 2015, giving this new partnership a connection that goes beyond a clever lyric.
For OutKast, whose music helped bring Atlanta’s voice and personality to a global audience, the pairing feels especially fitting. Their catalog has always made space for the details of Southern life, and Waffle House is one that listeners can recognize without needing an explanation.
Fans can shop the collaboration Friday through OutKast.com, while Atlanta locals can bring their appetite to the downtown launch party. Between the music, the merchandise, and the meals, the two hometown favorites are giving the A another reason to pull up.
