A Colorado woman forgot her rings at a Palm Beach Tan location. However, when she returned to the salon to get them back, they had disappeared.
In a video, Karolina Jaskot (@notkarolinajaskot) explains that she removed her rings before using a tanning bed and placed them underneath a sign inside the room along with the rest of her belongings. She grabbed everything except her rings. But it seems that someone else might have grabbed them instead.
Where Did the Cartier and Christian Dior Rings Go?
“Now my rings were placed on that little bench. I put the little sign that’s like ‘use protection on your eyes’ or whatever. I put it on that desk, same with the towel, my jeans, and the goggles—exposed. So everything’s just laying there, and then right after I hop out, I wipe myself down. My rings are still right there. I just happened to simply forget them from the tanning salon. It happens. Like, sometimes I forget things. I’m not perfect, and I actually left them under that sign,” Jaskot said.
She said she didn’t realize the rings were missing until about 25 minutes later while she was at a nail appointment.
“I called them right away, and I’m like, ‘Hey, I was in this room like 25-30 minutes ago. I left two rings … I’ll be there in like an hour to pick them up,’ like after my nail appointment. I’m like, ‘I’ll come back, and I’ll come grab them. My name is Karolina.’”
Jaskot said the employee told her the rings weren’t there. The customer then asked whether anyone had used the tanning room after her. She said the employee told her no. She then asked whether the room had been cleaned. According to her, the employee said yes, leading Jaskot to believe the employee who cleaned the room stole the rings.
Confrontation at the Salon
Jaskot says she arrived at the salon, searched the room, and asked to speak with a manager. The district manager was there and, according to Jaskot, was not very helpful. So, ultimately, Jaskot decided to call the police.
“I show up, check the room—rings are nowhere to be found. … So I walk out, and I call the police because I know what happened, and I’m sure as hell one of them knows exactly what happened too. The rings didn’t just grow legs and walk out of that tanning salon,” she said.
Jaskot said she understands the employees are young high school students probably earning just $15 an hour. But she believes someone should have been more honest since it was so clear that they could have been stolen by an employee. Jaskot said she paid nearly $2,000 for the gold Cartier Love ring and the white Christian Dior one.
The video has over 58,300 views and nearly 6,000 likes.
‘Dishonesty Is So Ugly’
Some viewers sympathized with Jaskot while others felt the missing rings were maybe not the salon’s responsibility.
“I’m so sorry this happened to you. I know how this feels and I’m on my third Cartier love ring from situations just like this. It can be replaced and one day you’ll get another one sweetheart,” one commenter says.
“Can you not go over cameras ???” says one viewer, to which Jaskot responded, “I am, but it’s only the worker going in and out and of course if she says ‘I haven’t seen them’ her managers won’t do anything ab it.”
“Girl find them on socials and see if they’re wearing them,” one person said.
“I mean, it’s your fault for forgetting them. I lost a Tiffany ring that way once. An expensive mistake,” another viewer wrote.
Even Palm Beach Tan responded to the video in the comments section.
“Hi Karolina, thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. Our team takes situations like these very seriously. We’ve sent you a message and look forward to being in contact with you,” the company commented. However, Jaskot wrote a comment saying that they did nothing to help her even after reaching out.
“Trust they did nothing,” Jaskot commented.
Is ‘Disappearing’ Jewelry at Tanning Salons Common?
Considering that tanning salons are places you need to take all your jewelry off at, customers leaving behind their jewelry or getting it misplaced at the salon can be common.
Several viewers in Jaskot’s comments section mentioned it happening to them.
One said, “This happened to my friend with her FAMILY HEIRLOOM engagement ring. Never got them back and years later, she’s still heartbroken over it.”
“Is it w colorado too?!” a second asked. “Like im sure it happens everywhere but this has actually happened to me in co at [Palm Beach Tan] like two years ago.”
Another questioned, “Are you in denver because i’ve had close to the same experience.. with my very expensive sunglasses, i felt gaslit.” Jaskot confirmed in a response to that commenter and others that the experience occurred in Denver at the Lowry Palm Beach Tan location.
Beyond Jaskot’s comments section, at one Ohio tanning salon, a woman was arrested after several accusations from customers about their jewelry and other valuables being stolen. The case revealed that an employee was taking jewelry left behind by customers. The investigation even led to some of those items being returned. This was also a Palm Beach Tan location.
In another case from Arizona, a woman left behind her wedding ring at a tanning salon. After the tanning salon claimed not to have the ring, an investigation began. Turns out, the ring had been pawned, and investigators found it at a nearby pawn shop.
If Jaskot decides to continue pursuing an investigation for the case, perhaps the rings will show up as they did in these other cases. As of right now, it is inconclusive what actually happened to her jewelry.
