She described a child who was devoted to her, someone who’d push her wheelchair when her body ached and show her unconditional love every single day.
“It wasn’t nothing in this world he wouldn’t do for me,” she said, her voice carrying the pain of someone who raised a child from 11 months old only to lose him to despair.
What makes this tragedy even more complex is the question nobody can answer: where did a 14-year-old get a gun?
According to Smith, the boy purchased it on the street for $200, but the family still doesn’t know who sold it to him.
She’s demanding accountability from whoever put that weapon in a child’s hands.
“Something need to be done with the person who sold them the gun cause if he would have never bought that gun, this wouldn’t never happened,” Smith said.
The boy’s 12-year-old sister, Lyric, is currently hospitalized after being shot in the neck.
She’s had three surgeries on her neck and vocal cords, and her family doesn’t yet know when she’ll be able to come home.
