‘ I can’t believe I just found this.’
Booking hotels in New York City can be incredibly costly, at least according to those visiting the iconic, most populous city in the United States. But one woman found a hotel that only cost $180 a night and, according to her, is nice enough to warrant future trips.
“If you ever need to go into New York City for a day and it’s just you, and you’re like, ‘I need somewhere to stay, but I don’t wanna pay, like, an arm and a leg,’ hear me out,” said Lauren Maenner (@laurenmaenner), an influencer and model. The hotel in question? Motto by Hilton.
How Was Her Stay at Motto By Hilton in New York?
Maenner gave Motto by Hilton a positive review and said that it would be her new destination when she takes solo trips to New York City. She says she originally booked the hotel because she had work-related plans that would require her to be on set at 5:00 a.m.
She chose Motto by Hilton because it felt like a small boutique hotel that could accommodate her. Going into the experience, though, the influencer didn’t have high hopes. She noted that boutique hotels usually have Murphy beds and small spaces.
When she arrived at the Motto by Hilton, however, she was pleasantly surprised.
“This hotel is so nice. It’s … Granted, it’s small,” Maenner said. She then panned around the room to show where the furnishings were, including the bed, flat-screen TV, and vanity with “really good lighting.” Maenner added that the walls in her room were soundproof.
The content creator also noticed that the hotel had complimentary waters, a snack, and earplugs for guests, which added to her positive experience.
What Do Other Reviews Say?
Outside of Maenner’s review, many people have chimed in on websites like TripAdvisor to review Motto by Hilton.
The hotel has a four-star rating on the platform, with many guests praising the property. Some, however, claimed that customer service was inconsistent, leading to issues.
One reviewer said, “We really wanted to like this hotel, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing due to inconsistent customer service.” They, like Maenner, noticed how small the hotel was, but that didn’t necessarily deter them from staying. Instead, alleged billing errors from the hotel contributed to their negative experience.
“I would strongly recommend carefully reviewing all restaurant and café charges before checking out. During our stay, we ordered takeout almost every day and discovered multiple billing errors on our account. We were charged for an item that was sent back and never consumed, and there was also a charge for an item that we never ordered. While the restaurant manager acknowledged the mistakes, resolving the billing issues required significant back-and-forth communication,” they said.
Other reviewers, however, said that the hotel is a “great place to stay in Times Square.” Multiple reviewers highlighted positive experiences they had at the property, with most saying that the hotel is relatively quiet, especially on higher floors.
What is Motto by Hilton?

‘I Mean, This Is Not Cheap at All’
Viewers discussed the hotel in the comments section. Some shared that they had previously stayed at the location, but others said the price dissuaded them.
“You must have gotten super lucky with your rate,” one commenter said. “I just checked date I need in September and it’s $470/night.”
Another viewer, however, said they got to stay in Manhattan for three nights for $100.
Other commenters supplied additional recommendations.
“Motto, Moxy, Dream and Double Tree are my inexpensive go tos for work travel to NYC. Safe, easy and quiet,” one viewer said.
Another person said, “loveeee moxy!!! it’s in lower east side basically on wall street tbh but super cute and get see the cute sad finance guys.”
