Trick Daddy defends Yung Miami as “Spend Dat” hits No. 25 despite India.Arie’s criticism.
Trick Daddy jumped to Yung Miami’s defense this week, and he didn’t hold back doing it.
The Miami legend went live on Instagram on July 2, blasting India. Arie and Nicci Gilbert over their criticism of Yung Miami’s#### “Spend Dat.” He told the singers to “leave her alone” and didn’t stop there.
“You old raggedy h*es is mad and jealous,” Trick Daddy said.
The backlash started with Gilbert, who called the song “low vibrational” on her YouTube series back in June. Arie piled on days later, replying to a Threads post calling for a boycott and saying the song’s popularity was “a crystal clear sign of this much bigger truth.” She also brought up Yung Miami’s past support of Diddy, who’s currently serving time on Mann Act charges.
Arie walked it back soon after, insisting she never called for a boycott and that the whole controversy was “absurd.” Producer J. White Did It jumped into the mess too, posting a video blending “Spend Dat” with Arie’s own record “Video” to troll the discourse. That clip only added fuel, and the debate has kept spreading across social media ever since.
None of the noise has slowed the song down. “Spend Dat” debuted at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in the spring and has climbed every week since, cracking the top 40 before landing at No. 25 this week, according to Billboard. It’s the highest chart position of Yung Miami’s career, solo or with City Girls.
The track has also topped 1 million TikTok creates and got played during the Knicks’ NBA Finals locker room celebration this summer. Critics can keep talking, but the numbers keep climbing right along with them.
